Administration - Test Your Project Milestones

  • updated 5 mths ago

Prior to having your team using your defined project milestones for actual projects, you should test your definitions to ensure that they are working as expected. This is a simple process:

  1. Create a test project lead. Use a fake customer, but an actual site address. You'll delete this project at the end.

  2. Once into the Project Workspace, ensure that the Status section of the Management Panel (right column) is open and visible.

  3. Complete the project milestones one by one. For each completion, check:
    • The milestones shown as Next Steps are the right ones. On completion of milestone X, milestone Y appears as the Next Step (if incorrect milestone appears, uncomplete the milestone and return to the Administration > Project Milestones screen and edit the milestone that you were expecting to appear. Update its predecessor to the milestone that you completed.)
    • During each step, the group of milestones shown in Next Steps make sense and are displayed in an appropriate order (use drag/drop in Project Milestones administration screen to adjust display order).
    • Make sure any milestones that have default assigned users are correct. Rollover or click the assigned user's initials in the Milestone card and check for the user's name.
    • Verify Milestones that result in Scheduled Events prompt users to schedule a date, if applicable.
    • Check that any Milestones with default deadlines have the correct length of time (days/hours) when their predecessor is completed.
  4. Adjust milestone definitions as you proceed through the whole process. You'll need to define a solution to get through the sales process.
  5. If you have any milestones that are only relevant when a rule is true, be sure to test each of those cases.
  6. After getting through the process once, create a new lead and re-test from the beginning to catch any other issues.

At the end of testing, go back and delete your test projects. Use the universal search box to find the project(s). Use the "X" icon to delete each of the projects.
